"When I was living in California, I had the privilege to direct TV commercials for Hooters. Just wanted to share some of my experiences." -
2.
"I'm sometimes the only Asian guy on set, so it's fun to punk new staff and crew by acting like I don't speak English." -
3.
"This is us filming in Tampa, Florida. There's usually around 30-40 people on set (not including extras). Since I'm fairly soft-spoken, speaking super loud all day is the hardest part for me on set." -
4.
"This specific commercial was completely improvised! We were walking down a hallway inside a stadium and all the lights were off. I said to my gaffer, "Wouldn't it be epic if we had a giant light behind the girls and make them walk in slow motion?" Boom. Filmed it in about 20 minutes." -
5.
"Gavin and Casey bullying me. Can't complain." -
6.

7.
Fun Fact: "every Hooters girl you see on TV, Calendar, magazine, etc. all works for Hooters. They never hire some random model or actor. I didn't know this until I started working them." -
8.
"Although we film all over the U.S., the majority of our shoots are done in California, Georgia, and Florida. This one was is Los Angeles, CA." -
9.
"I draw storyboards for our commercials as well." -
10.
"That's me acting like I know what I'm doing. Also on the left is John Gruden. One of the nicest people I've ever worked with. His genuine passion for football is also inspiring." -
11.
"Preparing our shot" (based on the above storyboard) -
12.
"Best part of Hooters, of course, is hanging with the Hooters girls! Got to make some really close friends throughout the adventure." -
13.
Jealous? -
14.
"I drew these storyboards just a few hours before the shoot. Typically, storyboards are made way before production. We had a shot list prepared (a list for everything we need to film), but I always felt storyboards made productions go a lot smoother." -
15.
"Here's another rushed storyboard I drew. We filmed this one at the original Hooters in Florida." -
16.
"We then used the footage to play on the TV for our commercial spot with coach Jon Gruden. Also, this was the first TV commercial I directed. Good times!" -
17.
"These actors were probably thinking, "Whoa, this super asian-lookin dude speaks perfect English." Haha." -
18.
More storyboards. It seems you need quite a few. -
19.
"On shot #6, we filmed different LTO (limited time offer) items. Whether it be ribs, burgers, or steak, we would film the LTOs separately to allow clients to have different versions of the commercial." -
20.
"This is the screen I view while directing. Depending on the size of production, there are multiple screens for producers, makeup artists, etc." -
21.
"There's a designated person who keeps the foam look perfect on the beers. They're called "fluffers". Pretty neat!" -
22.
Behind the scenes in Newport Beach, CA. -
23.
"I edit our commercials too! They usually lock me up in a hotel near our shoot and leave me there for a few days, haha. They also provide me with unlimited booze! No joke..." -
24.
"Most commercials are either 15 or 30 seconds. It's crazy how much money and work goes into something that's only a few seconds!" -
25.
"But totally worth it!" -
26.
This is the lucky guy. Wouldn't you want to be him when you grow up?
